Jimmy Fallon Lobbies for a Hot 100 Billboard Hit with Satirical New Song ‘Ew!’
(New York Daily News) – Can making fun of annoying “teen-girl-speak” give you a pop hit?
Jimmy Fallon is betting big on it.
On Tuesday, he released a single, and a music video, for his snarky piece “Ew!,” which satirizes the perpetually peeved attitudes of female tweens (is there any other kinds?). He launched a simultaneous Twitter and radio campaign to slingshot the song up the charts.
The piece, which made its radio debut on Elvis Duran’s popular “Z100 Morning Show” Tuesday, features a familiar Fallon character. He plays Sara, a teen who always seems to be rolling her eyes or clucking her tongue. For the clip and song, the “Tonight Show” host enlists will.i.am, in the guise of his own snarky girl self, “mir.i.am.”
In the clip, the “girls” gripe about all the things that make them say, “Ew!” — people who take “selfies” while pursing their lips like a duck, slow-dancing with boys, making “Facetime” calls and retweeting tweets.
