Ed Reed Spurned Patriots to Join Rex Ryan’s Jets

Things didn’t work out for Ed Reed and the Houston Texans, so the ballhawking free safety opted for more familiarity when he joined his third team in less than a year.

The New York Jets signed Reed on Thursday, reuniting him with coach Rex Ryan. The duo overlapped for seven years with the Baltimore Ravens, who employed Ryan as their defensive coordinator before he took the big promotion in New York after the 2008 season.

“It feels right, and it is right. I’m comfortable. I’m happy to be here, great situation for me,” said Reed, a five-time all-pro and former NFL defensive player of the year.

He didn’t waste any time hitting the practice field despite operating on just two hours of sleep.
