But if Sunday night’s emotional return to Boston showed anything to Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, it’s that no matter what jersey they’re wearing at the moment, the place where they left years of memories — and possibly their hearts — will always be a place they call home.
Pierce, who was drafted by Boston in 1998 and left with 24,021 points scored wearing a Boston uniform, grew especially teary-eyed as the Celtics played a tribute video featuring his greatest moments from the day he was drafted through the day he brought home a title. Throughout the National Anthem and player introductions, the crowd was filled with “Thank you” shouts for both players and a “Paul Pierce” chant.
