D-II CIAA Championship Game Officially Cancelled After QB Was Attacked by Opposing Team

The CIAA Conference Championship game, scheduled for Saturday, has been cancelled after Rudy Johnson, the quarterback for Winston-Salem, was attacked by members of Virginia State at a luncheon on Friday.
The two teams were set to meet for the CIAA conference championship on Saturday and the luncheon is a tradition prior to the game. CIAA Commissioner Jacqie Carpenter announced the cancellation in a statement.
“Based on the incident that occurred today, and after consulting with the leadership of each institution and the Football and Volleyball championship committees, the CIAA is saddened to announce that this weekend’s Football and Volleyball conference championships that were schedule to to take place in Winston-Salem have been canceled.”
