(The Tennessean) – In a move that should have blindsided no one, the Titans released right tackle Michael Oher on Thursday, less than a year after the team signed him to a four-year contract.

Oher struggled mightily in 2014. By releasing him now, the team admitted the mistake rather than invest further in the veteran whose season was cut short by injuries and marred by unsteady play.

Oher played in 11 games for the Titans in 2014 after signing a four-year, $20 million deal last offseason. He was scheduled to make $4 million in 2015 after collecting $6 million last season in bonuses and base salary.

The Titans are now off the hook for the rest of the contract.
