Map: 10 States That Draw the Most International Students
(U.S. News) – The U.S. received the highest number of international students in its history in 2013-2014, welcoming 886,052 undergraduate and graduate international students into its colleges and universities.
Just as the students were diverse, so were their destinations.
While coastal states California and New York drew the most international students, many students from outside the country also made themselves at home in places like Texas, Indiana and Illinois, according to the 2014 Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange, an annual survey of study abroad trends by the Institute of International Education in partnership with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
Forty-one states experienced growth in the number of international students, according to the report. Ohio, which welcomed 28,401 international students in 2012-2013, saw the biggest percentage increases in international students in the states that hosted the most international students.
