LIVESTREAM — 6.15.20 1PM ET — #SaveLocalJournalism #12: “THE LEGACY OF THE BLACK PRESS”
As the Black Press celebrates its 193rd year, we find ourselves facing an unfortunate reality: Too many of the stories of discrimination, abuse, and unjust treatment that were published when ink first connected to newsprint owned and produced by a Black publisher 193 years ago, can be re-published today with minor edits made for time and location.
We find ourselves in a challenging time. The perceptions that surround equity, opportunity, justice, education, healthcare and access to affordable life essentials are too often still based upon skin color.
Three publishers of historic and impactful Black Newspapers will discuss the Legacy of the Black Press and why news and information from the Black perspective matters to the world today more than ever before.
