Erath Honors African-American Teacher with Historical Marker

A labor of love came full circle Tuesday.

Community members gathered to pay homage to a piece of local history during the unveiling of the county’s 75th historical marker.

Cornelia Graves (1875-1960) was honored for her contribution and commitment to the community and education.

While another reminder of her contribution that dates back to 1951 and stands still today – Cornelia Graves Elementary School, located on Floral Street – Stephenville resident Thetis Edwards worked at least two years to uncover the history of her long, impacting life.
