Atlanta-based startup Guala is a modern merchant wallet, built to simplify how independent business owners, creators, and entrepreneurs get paid. Founded by Austin Evans and CMO and Morehouse alum Sencere Smith, Guala was created to eliminate the payment friction that millions of small businesses experience every day—serving as a centralized merchant wallet that helps users organize sales, track revenue, and move money more efficiently, which gives entrepreneurs the tools to operate and scale with greater confidence. The startup also announced a new leadership addition, with acclaimed creative director Desyree Nicole joining the company as Creative Strategist, who is known for her work across fashion, sports, and culture.

Before revolutionizing HBCU media, Symonds was a key architect in the growth of Black Entertainment Television (BET). A major celebration of HBCU athletics, education, and culture is returning to Miami Gardens, Florida on Labor Day Weekend. The Bulldogs of South Carolina State University take on the Florida A&M Rattlers at the Orange Blossom Classic. The nationally-televised matchup takes place Sunday, Sept. 6 at 3pm as the feature of the Classic, which includes a weekend of events for family, bands, and football fans. Today, we’ll talk with Kendra Bulluck, Executive Director of the Orange Blossom Classic and one of the few female owners and operators of a major sports property, and we’ll hear from FAMU alum, former NFL athlete, and current FAMU head football coach Quinn Gray, Sr. on how his team is preparing for the big game and how the Classic elevates visibility for all HBCUs.
