Worldwide Tablet Sales Surge

Global sales of tablet computers surged 50.6 per cent last year, with Apple clinging to the top vendor spot amid strong gains by rivals, a survey shows.
International Data Corp (IDC) said on Wednesday that worldwide tablet shipments totalled 217.1 million, up from 144.2 million in 2012.
IDC said Apple’s iPad is increasing sales but slower than the overall market, and that growth rates are tapering off in the big markets like the US.
“It’s becoming increasingly clear that markets such as the US are reaching high levels of consumer saturation and, while emerging markets continue to show strong growth, this has not been enough to sustain the dramatic worldwide growth rates of years past,” said IDC analyst Tom Mainelli.
