2024 Mazda CX-50 Turbo Premium Plus: Full Review and Test Drive

Published

on

As an auto journalist, I’ve had the pleasure of spending some quality time with the 2024 Mazda CX-50 2.5L Turbo Premium Plus, and I’m eager to share my experience. This machine, dressed in a sophisticated Machine Gray Metallic exterior and a rich Terracotta interior, is a feast for the senses and a testament to Mazda’s commitment to driving pleasure.

Performance
Under the hood, the CX-50 boasts a turbocharged SKYACTIV-G 2.5L engine that delivers a robust 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque on regular gas. This powertrain is paired with Mazda’s i-ACTIV all-wheel drive, ensuring confident handling in various driving conditions. The addition of MI-DRIVE with Sport/Off-Road/Towing modes further enhances the vehicle’s versatility, whether you’re cruising on the highway or venturing off the beaten path. Despite its sporty ride, the CX-50’s fuel economy, at 23 mpg city, 29 highway, and 25 combined, isn’t the class leader, but it’s a trade-off for the spirited performance.

Comfort and Interior
Inside, the CX-50 doesn’t disappoint. The leather-trimmed seats are both heated and ventilated, providing year-round comfort. The power driver’s seat with memory function ensures you’ll always find your perfect driving position with ease. The heated steering wheel and leather-wrapped paddle shifters add a touch of luxury and control, making every drive an engaging experience. The spacious cabin comfortably accommodates five passengers, all secured with 3-point safety belts.

Safety and Technology
Mazda has packed the CX-50 with an impressive array of safety features. The suite includes Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind-Spot Monitoring, Lane Keep Assist, and a Lane Departure Warning System, providing peace of mind for both driver and passengers. The 360-degree View Monitor and Traffic Jam Assist are part of the Turbo Premium Plus package, enhancing safety and convenience in tight spots and heavy traffic.

The technological offerings are equally impressive. The Mazda Connect system, along with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ensures seamless connectivity. The 10.25-inch color center display is crisp and clear, while the Bose 12-speaker audio system delivers an immersive sound experience. The Active Driving Display projects vital information onto the windshield, allowing you to keep your eyes on the road.

Exterior Features
The CX-50’s exterior is as functional as it is stylish. The power panoramic moonroof and adaptive front lighting system add to the vehicle’s allure, while practical features like the rear power liftgate and power-folding side mirrors enhance everyday usability. The 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all-season tires provide a commanding presence on the road.

Price
With a total MSRP of $45,270, the CX-50 sits in a competitive spot in the market. It’s not the cheapest option, but considering the extensive list of features and the overall driving experience, it feels like good value.

Pros and Cons
Pros:
The CX-50 handles exceptionally well, offering a sporty and engaging ride.
The design is distinctive, setting it apart from competitors like the Honda CR-V, VW Tiguan, and Kia Sportage Hybrid.
Seats are both comfortable and supportive, suitable for long journeys.

Cons:
Fuel economy isn’t the best in its class.
There’s a noticeable rattle in the sunroof area, which could detract from the otherwise premium feel.

2026 Lucid Air Grand Touring Review — Is This $136K EV Sedan Worth It?

AUTONETWORK ON BLACKPRESSUSA — Finished in Stellar White Metallic with the Tahoe Grand Touring interior, this Lucid makes a strong first impression. The shape is sleek and low, but it still feels elegant instead of trying too hard. Features like soft-close doors, powered illuminated door handles, 20-inch Aero Lite wheels, and the Glass Canopy Roof help the car feel expensive before you even start it.

The 2026 Lucid Air Grand Touring is the kind of luxury EV that makes people stop and ask a simple question: Is this really better than a Tesla Model S, Mercedes EQS, or BMW i7? At $136,150, it has to do more than look futuristic. It has to feel special every time you get in it.

Finished in Stellar White Metallic with the Tahoe Grand Touring interior, this Lucid makes a strong first impression. The shape is sleek and low, yet it still feels elegant rather than trying too hard. Features like soft-close doors, powered illuminated door handles, 20-inch Aero Lite wheels, and the Glass Canopy Roof help the car feel expensive before you even start it.

Inside is where the Air Grand Touring really makes its case. The 34-inch Glass Cockpit Display and retractable Pilot Panel screen give the cabin a clean, modern look that still feels different from other EVs. The Tahoe Extended Leather and Lucid Black Alcantara headliner lifts the sense of occasion, and the front seats are a highlight. They are 20-way power-adjustable, heated, ventilated, and include massage. That matters because luxury buyers at this price expect comfort first.

Rear passengers are not ignored either. You get 5-zone heated rear seating, a rear center console display, and power rear and rear side window sunshades. Add in the Surreal Sound Pro system with 21 speakers, and the Air feels like a true long-distance luxury sedan.

Lucid also gives this car serious EV hardware. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, 900V+ charging architecture, and Wunderbox onboard charger are big talking points. Buyers in this segment care about range, charging speed, and everyday ease, not just raw performance. That is where the Lucid continues to stand out.

On the technology side, the Air Grand Touring includes DreamDrive Premium, with 3D Surround View Monitoring, Blind Spot Warning, Automatic Park In and Out, Automatic Emergency Braking, and a Driver Monitoring System with distracted and drowsy driver alerts. This one also has DreamDrive Pro, which adds future-capable ADAS hardware.

There are still some real-world annoyances. Based on your notes, the windshield wiper control is hard to find and use, and that matters more than people think in a high-tech car. When controls become less intuitive, even a beautiful interior can feel frustrating.

Still, the 2026 Lucid Air Grand Touring succeeds where it matters most. It feels luxurious, advanced, comfortable, and thoughtfully engineered. For buyers who want an EV sedan that feels truly premium and less common than the usual choices, this Lucid makes a very strong case.
